A medium sized insurance and investment firm with USD 100 billion in AUM had begun a major program to transform its business and significantly upgrade and standardize its global investment operation platform. The program required implementing an internally built data warehouse and multiple vendor solutions, along with upgrading capabilities for risk management and front-to-back straight through processing. At the heart of the program was the implementation of a vendor solution supporting portfolio modeling and trading, investment operations, and compliance at trade and portfolio levels, as well as daily risk analysis and reporting for a complex, global mix of assets.

With an aggressive timeline to implement the entire program, the firm asked Cutter Associates for help navigating the vendors’ proposed implementation approaches, and for hands-on help leading the project and delivering on several critical work streams.

Our senior implementation specialist served as a trusted advisor in the overall implementation planning effort, and led teams through a number of the primary work streams. Areas of significant guidance included the following:

  • Overall project planning – We shared our expertise on best practices for implementing the vendor platforms, and identified potential pitfalls before they could impact the project schedule.
  • Compliance – We led the hands-on compliance analysis and testing for the firm’s global mandates and applicable state regulations.
  • User acceptance testing and training – We led the analysis, planning, and execution of the program’s UAT and user training work streams, working closely with each of the firm’s investment management and operations teams.
  • Data conversion – We developed the strategy and implementation roadmap for converting data for the user acceptance and parallel test phases.

We worked across application and business teams globally, defining new business processes for the firm’s target operation platform, and helping the vendor integrate with investment products they were not familiar with.
