Since the inception of Cutter Associates we have worked side-by-side with vendors to solve our mutual clients’ investment processing problems. Core to CutterConsulting is a deep understanding of the software and solution providers servicing the investment management business.

Why participate in the systems search process?

  • Our consultants encourage clients to include in the shortlist only systems that are a good fit for the client’s business and technical requirements (usually three), so there is a reasonably good chance of winning the business.
  • CutterConsulting’s evaluation process is widely known to be fair, objective and free of conflicts; the only goal is to help the client make the best decision for their firm.
  • The process is managed by consultants who have a deep understanding of investment systems and have extensive experience with systems evaluations.

System Search and Selection Methodology

Clients are the decision makers; the role of Cutter is to guide clients through a structured and proven evaluation methodology and to provide clients with detailed input about vendors and their products. Typically, the process involves the following steps:

  • During the Discovery Phase Cutter’s consultants gather the client’s detailed system and business requirements in order to construct an RFP.
  • Based on Cutter’s review of available solutions, the client selects possible solution providers. We urge clients to only include products that are a good potential fit for their operations. Cutter normally suggests 3 to 5 vendors so that each vendor has a very good chance of winning the business.
  • Vendors are granted a generous amount of time to respond to an RFP. We understand that our client is not the vendor's only prospect; but some clients may have a greater sense of urgency.
  • We facilitate conference calls so that vendors can direct questions to both Cutter consultants and the client.
  • Cutter’s consultants are available during the entire process to answer questions.
  • We prepare vendors for the demos by providing a detailed agenda and by insuring vendors understand the client’s key issues.
  • We provide feedback to the vendors throughout the evaluation process.
  • After the completion of demos and due diligence, Cutter hosts a meeting with the client to review the process and answer client questions.
  • The client selects their preferred vendor.
  • After the close of the selection process Cutter calls all the vendors to explain the rationale for the selection.

Implementation of vendor solutions is a significant and important business for CutterConsulting. We have extensive experience installing systems that support trade order management, compliance, risk management, analytics, data management, reporting, performance measurement and performance attribution, and investment accounting.
